Ten years ago Malou followed the Lord alone to Barahona in the Dominican Republic where she began to reach out to and teach the children of Haitian refugees in the batey of Algodon. Once Malou became affiliated with the Children of the Nations, the ministry expanded to the bateys of Don Bosco and Los Robles. Children of the Nations (COTN) is based in Silverdale, Washington. This ministry organization contributes specialists, administrators, short term interns and resources from which the children are clothed, housed and fed. Malou retains her responsibilities as the spiritual leader of the mission.
